Hospital Policies

  • Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital, Plymouth, MA

    Beth Israel releases placentas immediately, so bring your insulated bag and included freezer bags with you. After giving birth, the Nursing staff can fill the included freezer bags with ice to pack around your placenta. The Nursing staff will contain your placenta in a biohazard container, place in the insulated bag, and pack the ice around your placenta to keep it cold until pickup. Be sure to refresh ice as needed so that your placenta stays fully surrounded by ice.

  • Charlton Memorial Hospital

    Charlton Memorial Hospital, Fall River, MA

    Charlton Memorial Hospital keeps placentas in a refrigerator for six (6) days, which is outside of food safety guidelines; thus, we can only process placentas birthed at Charlton Memorial Hospital for NON-consumption, such as spreading its ashes, or keepsakes (art prints/umbilical cord). Should you choose non-consumption options, you can bring your Birthing Bliss insulated bag (and included freezer bags) with you. After giving birth, staff will send your placenta to Pathology to ensure no infections are present; Pathology will keep your placenta in their refrigerators until it is discharged six (6) days later.

  • Kent Hospital, Warwick, RI

    Kent Hospital typically releases placentas upon discharge, so bring your insulated bag (and included freezer bags) with you. On the day of your discharge, hospital staff will contain your placenta in a biohazard bag and/or container. The included freezer bags can be filled with ice, to pack around your placenta in the insulated bag to keep it cold until pickup. Kent requires encapsulators and postpartum patients to be present, together, for placenta discharge. I will meet you in your postpartum room, then walk over with you, and a nurse, to discharge your placenta at Kent’s refrigerator, or if you prefer, you can take home your placenta, and I will pick up from you at your home. Either way, be sure to refresh ice as needed so that your placenta stays fully surrounded by ice.

  • Landmark Medical Center

    Landmark Medical Center, Woonsocket, RI

    Landmark Medical Center releases placentas immediately, so bring your insulated bag and included freezer bags with you. After giving birth, the Nursing staff can fill the included freezer bags with ice to pack around your placenta. The Nursing staff will contain your placenta in a biohazard bag and/or container, place in the insulated bag, and pack the ice around your placenta to keep it cold at the Nurse’s station until pickup. I will either pick up your placenta from the Nurses Station at the hospital, or you can bring it home with you if you prefer, and I will pick up from you at your home. Either way, be sure to refresh ice as needed so that your placenta stays fully surrounded by ice.

  • Newport Hospital

    Newport Hospital, Newport, RI

    Newport Hospital typically releases placentas upon discharge, so bring your insulated bag (and included freezer bags) with you. On the day of your discharge, hospital staff will contain your placenta in a biohazard bag and/or container, and bring to your postpartum room upon discharge. The included freezer bags can be filled with ice, to pack around your placenta in the insulated bag to keep it cold until pickup. I will either pick up your placenta from you at the hospital, or you can bring it home, and I will pick up from you at your home. Either way, be sure to refresh ice as needed so that your placenta stays fully surrounded by ice.

  • Newton Wellesley Hospital

    Newton Wellesley Hospital, Newton, MA

    Newton Wellesley has a policy of keeping a placenta for at least two (2) [business] days so bring your insulated bag (and included freezer bags) with you. Hospital staff will inform you which day your placenta will be discharged; upon its discharge, hospital staff will contain your placenta in a biohazard bag and/or container then send it up to be held at the Nurses station. Your partner (or Nursing staff) can fill the included freezer bags with ice, then provide the insulated bag and ice to the Nursing staff to keep your placenta cold until pickup. I will either pick up your placenta from the Nurses Station at the hospital, or you can bring it home, and I will pick up from you at your home. Either way, be sure to refresh ice as needed so that your placenta stays fully surrounded by ice.

  • South County Hospital

    South County Hospital, Wakefield, RI

    South County Hospital releases placentas immediately, so bring your insulated bag and included freezer bags with you. After giving birth, your partner can provide the Nursing staff with the insulated bag and freezer bags; the Nursing staff can fill the included freezer bags with ice to pack around your placenta. The Nursing staff will contain your placenta in a biohazard bag and/or container, place in the insulated bag, and pack the ice around your placenta to keep it cold in their refrigerators until pickup. I will either pick up your placenta from your room at the hospital, or if you prefer, you can bring it home with you, and I will pick up from you at your home. Either way, be sure to refresh ice as needed so that your placenta stays fully surrounded by ice.

  • St. Luke's Hospital

    St. Luke's Hospital, New Bedford, MA

    St. Luke’s Hospital Charlton Memorial Hospital keeps placentas in a refrigerator for seven (7) days, which is outside of food safety guidelines; thus, we can only process placentas birthed at St. Luke’s Hospital for NON-consumption, such as spreading its ashes, or keepsakes (art prints/umbilical cord). Should you choose non-consumption options, you can bring your Birthing Bliss insulated bag (and included freezer bags) with you. After giving birth, staff will send your placenta to Pathology to ensure no infections are present; Pathology will keep your placenta in their refrigerators until it is discharged seven (7) days later. You can list my name on the placenta release form so that I can pick up your placenta when it is discharged so that you don’t have to go back to the hospital to pick it up.

  • Women & Infants Hospital

    Women & Infants Hospital, Providence, RI

    Women & Infants Hospital releases your placenta upon birth so bring your insulated bag (and included freezer bags) with you. After giving birth, hospital staff will contain your placenta in a biohazard bag and/or container. Your partner (or Nursing staff) can fill the included freezer bags with ice, then provide the insulated bag and ice to the Nursing staff to keep your placenta cold until pickup. I will pick up your placenta from your partner at the hospital, or you can bring it home, and I will pick up from you at your home. Either way, be sure to refresh ice as needed so that your placenta stays fully surrounded by ice.
